"LET IT (GULP) SNOW... A lack of the white stuff that sticks to the ground could be a real problem to the producers of "A Christmas Story," which is being filmed here in and outside Higbee's downtown store. They need snow for a Christmas parade they are filming beginning Wednesday night.
If nature doesn't provide any, they'll either rent snow-making machines from local ski areas if it's cold enough, or make it the magical Hollywood ersatz way.
Inside the department store, the film's designer's are building a Santa Claus mountain a la those of the 1940s, when children climbed steps to see St. Nick, then slid down a slide. The mountain is on the main floor and has displaced ladies' blouses.
Also, Higbee Chairman Herb Strawbridge's daughter, Leigh, a special events coordinator fo the store, will play a main-floor saleman in the film."
