Back in 2000, Kulk was assistant sports editor of the Brattleboro Reformer over in East Vermont. For International Lefthanders Day he put together a photo collage of area athletes and it turned out well. The managing editor did a discount double check of the photo in the middle and laughed once he saw that the catcher is a lefty. Kulk always paid attention to lefties because he's a lefty too although as noted in the previous post he's really ambidextrous.

The world is full of lefties and especially artists and actors and writers and singers and presidents ... Michelangelo and Picasso and DaVinci and Nieman and Jason Alexander and Dan Aykroyd and Matthew Broderick and Pierce Brosnan and George Burns and James Caan (actor) and Sid Caesar and Robert DeNiro and Matt Dillon and Cary Grant and Chewbaca and Ellen Barkin and Drew B Barrymore and Kim Basinger and Carol Burnett and Buzzi and Garbo and Garland and Whoopi and Grable and James Baldwin and Kafka and Twain and Welty and Lenny Bruce and Harpo and Piscopo and Rickles and Spike Lee and Ted Koppel and Presidents Garfield, Hoover, Truman, Ford, Reagan, 41, 42, 43 ... and really the list of celebrity lefties is long. Even Matt Groening who made Bart Simpson a mollycoddler too. Fiddlehead owner Joel Lentzner is a lefty. So is Lefty Driesell, who was born on Christmas. True sporto's know who Lefty Driesell is. Here's a list of 1,000 notable lefties: http://www.lefthandersday.com/tour/famous-left-handers#.WZBFf3eGNyo

For the last 3 years Kulk has coached young softballers in a Bennington league. His team -- Shaftsbury -- won the title in June. Leading a ragtag band of tween and teen warriors to 1st place against all odds -- steep odds -- was of the sweetest joys of his life. The title game, especially the 6th inning -- and really, the bottom half -- was one for the ages.

A few of Kulk's players are lefties (or ambi's anyway). Last season he might have had the only team in Vermont where the starting catcher and shortstop threw with their left hands. Dakota returned to play short this season. Funny thing about "Sparky" is she bats from the right side. On the other hand, Kulk's 3-year pitcher Gretta windmills with the right but bats from the left. Go figure.

Gretta's in the bigly'est fight of her life against a terrible and ugly and inhuman blob that she has named Donald. We love you, Gretta. We love you very much.

Just remember, kraut-HEIM, that on Championship Sunday you shrugged off the back pain and pitched 2 games in 90-degree weather and didn't walk a batter in the title game and made the final play to clinch the crown. You'll slay Donald too. 30!
